Seiko has always had quite the name when it comes to horological excellence. Affordable but chic and classy, it has been one of the most innovative but affordable watch brands on the market.
Among the most memorable lines that Seiko has is the Seiko Prospex. This watch line Seiko first launched in 1965, and aims to challenge every limit, for both sports lovers and seekers of adventure on land, sky and water.
But in the hands of a chic and busy girlboss, how would a Seiko Prospex model fare? Read on to find out!
A Little Familiarity
I had this ride with Seiko, and I’m taking it with none other than a unit from their Prospex line! What I got was the Seiko Prospex SPB143J1! When I got it, I was surprised that on my wrist, the timepiece sure looked pretty right at home. I’ll be real: this isn’t the first time that I got something this fancy. I’ve tried a few other watch brands and with my current lifestyle, the most convenient thing I have on my wrist is my trusty Samsung smartwatch or my Garmin.
On paper, it seems fine; it’s touted as the world’s first GPS solar watch and has an Automatic with manual winding movement, and a power reserve of 70 hours.
My boyfriend noticed right away that the watch was new and he did think it seemed a little too “masculine” but I was okay with it. On my wrist, I didn’t have issue with the way the Seiko SPB143J1 felt on my wrist.
After I got the watch, I wore it everyday on my wrist. When it comes to wearability, this unit certainly works so well!
The Dial
The dial is a very neutral and dark gray that almost looks black. Its cool-toned colors give it a more chic look, albeit it is quite a domineering and dark design. It’s also the reason why I picked this watch, due to its dial.
The Watch Image
From a surface level-look, the watch does come off as too masculine with its silver color and very masculine design. Truth be told, I had been eyeing the watch for a while, especially after James Stacey from Hondinkee first reviewed it.
There were four SPB models released within the same batch, but I knew I had to pick the version with the grey dial because of its versatility.
My Experience
In the end, I really ended up liking this watch. It might just measure 40.5mm wide, 13.2mm tall and 46.5mm lug-to-lug but it was a very comfortable wear on my wrist, with more than a month sporting it to my day job, consultations and even events!
I think a huge factor that made my experience and expectations with the watch more realistic was that I did take into consideration before buying it was the fact this watch was from Seiko Prospex.
Compared to the Seiko 5 watches, Seiko Prospex presents a professional image and it was a watch meant for professional activities – nothing short of what I’d do, given I work as a girlboss in my day job.
Wrapping Up
The Seiko Prospex leaves me little to be dissatisfied with. My busy schedule and corporate image aligned well with the watch and what it stood for – and when it came to the experience, it performed quite well with my daily activities. If you’re looking for great value and a stylish piece, then the Seiko Prospex line may be what you are looking for!
