Tom Cruise, Digger, and a rough opening

Tom Cruise’s new film Digger, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, opened into a rough weekend and rougher reviews. On 6 October 2026 the director spoke about the reaction to the satirical comedy. Kirsten Dunst had been at the premiere to support her husband, Jesse Plemons, with Cruise also there.

An opening weekend is a number and a stack of notices. When both go against the film, the director either hides or answers. Iñárritu answered. That is the piece. Not a guess about what Cruise said in a car afterwards.

A cover can carry the title of the film and the fact of the weekend. It should not invent a quote the wires did not carry. The argument about Digger is public. The rest can wait for the people who were in the room.
